F14 Tomcat

Pertinent Facts on F-14 Cockpit

Grumman F-14A Tomcat Cockpit Section

Removed from aircraft #159432, the 98th F-14 built in Bethpage. Delivered to the Navy in November 1974. During its operations career it was assigned to VF-124, Miramar NAS and VF-143, Oceana NAS.

In late 1975 it suffered an engine failure resulting in an explosion and fire which extensively damaged the aircraft. Stricken from the Navy inventory in 1976, the cockpit section was removed and sent to Grumman to use as a test bed for future electronic upgrades (it is currently a F-14D version). Obtained by the Cradle of Aviation Museum for restoration in 1999.
