Located on the western edge of the Atlantic, the eastern edge of the continent, with great airfields, and next to America's largest city, Long Island was the logical place to begin or end long distance flights. There were more notable flights--transatlantic, transcontinental and around-the-world--from Long Island than from any other place on Earth.
