A Discussion with Mr. Michael D. Griffin, and Dr. Lisa Porter, Co-Presidents, LogiQ, Inc.

This lecture will discuss an alternative approach to the current Artemis program. The speakers will also discuss the importance of human space exploration to national security as it relates to our ongoing competition with China for primacy in the projection of global power and influence.

About the Speakers

Michael D. Griffin and Lisa J. Porter are the co-founders and co-presidents of LogiQ, Inc., which provides high-end management and scientific and technical consulting services. He was previously the under-secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In that role, he shared responsibility with the Deputy Under Secretary for research, development, and prototyping activities within the Department of Defense. In prior roles, he was the Chairman and CEO of Schafer Corporation, the King-MacDonald Professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, the Administrator of NASA, Space Department Head at the John Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, President of In-Q-Tel, CEO of Magellan Systems, and EVP and General Manager of Orbital ATK’s Space Systems Group. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the International Academy of Astronautics, an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a Fellow of the American Astronautical Society, and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has received the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and many other awards. He holds seven earned degrees and two honorary doctoral degrees. He is a Certified Flight Instructor, a Registered Professional Engineer, and the lead author of 24 technical papers and the textbook Space Vehicle Design.

Dr. Porter was previously the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. In that role, she shared responsibility with the Under Secretary for the research, development, and prototyping activities across the Department of Defense. In prior roles, she served as Executive Vice President of In-Q-Tel (IQT) and Director of IQT Labs, the President of Teledyne Scientific & Imaging, the first Director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity in the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Associate Administrator for the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate at NASA. As a program manager and senior scientist at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, she holds a bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering and a doctorate in applied physics. She received the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service and many other awards.
