Cradle of Aviation Museum Secures Conservation Grant

Preserving History: Federal Funding Bolsters Artifact Conservation

Garden City, New York - August 20, 2023 - The Cradle of Aviation Museum proudly announces the acquisition of a Federal Save America's Treasures grant, facilitated by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). This grant provides essential support for our ongoing conservation efforts, aimed at preserving and enhancing our extensive collection of historic aircraft and spacecraft, which embodies our shared heritage.

With additional support from the PSEG Energy Efficiency Rebate Program, we are advancing efforts to safeguard and showcase our remarkable artifacts. Partnering with Aztec Energy Group Inc. and Erco, we are implementing cutting-edge lighting solutions as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability and long-term preservation.

The conservation project focuses on protecting artifacts from ultraviolet light, heat, and organic growth through upgraded lighting technologies. This ensures the preservation of their historical and cultural significance for future generations.

Jennifer Baxmeyer, Executive Director of the Cradle of Aviation Museum, expressed gratitude, stating, "We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the Institute of Museum and Library Services for bestowing this significant grant upon us. With their support, we are preserving our cherished collection and enhancing the quality of visitor engagement with history."

This initiative secures our collection's integrity and enhances the visitor experience by creating an optimal environment for artifacts and guests alike. It underscores our commitment to providing educational and inspiring experiences, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in our collection's rich history and cultural significance.
